Un homme heureux / One happy man

Eh non, vous ne rêvez pas, c'est bien le même endroit qu'avant, mais là, il commence à y avoir une plus nette ressemblance avec un salon. Les canapés sont en place (merci les copains !), les rideaux sont remis aux fenêtre, et Robin a retrouvé son activité favorite.
Mais que regarde-t-il donc ? La superbe cheminée ?

Well, well, well, look at this. It isn't photoshoped, it is indeed the same place as before but there are more and more common points with a living-room. The sofas are in place (thanks to our friends' help), curtains are back on, and Robin can enjoy his favourite activity once again.
But what is he watching ? The beautiful fireplace ?


Eh non ! La télé, bien sûr. Et comme vous pouvez le constater, pas d'amélioration pour la programmation ...
Alas no ! He's watching TV, of course. And as you can see, the programmes are still rubbish ...

Histoire de placard/cupboard story

Les choses commencent à prendre forme !!
Comme vous pouvez le voir, le salon est presque fini, et il est pour l'instant utilisé comme salle à manger. Vous noterez un certain nombre de détails très prometteurs : la présence de rideaux (c'est les vieux, mais quand même ...), la cheminée avec ses bougies et ses cartes, ma tasse de tisane qui traine sur la table et les journaux de dimanche ... On dirait de plus en plus un lieu de vie, et de moins en moins un chantier !!
Things are starting to take shape !
As you can see, the living-room is almost finished, and is currently being used as a dining-room. You can note a few promising details : there are now curtains (albeit the old ones, but curtains nonetheless...), the fire-place has got candles and cards on the mantle-piece, my herbal tea cup is lying on the table, next to Sunday's newspapers ... It is looking more and more like space for living, and less and less like a building site !!

Et puis il y a le placard ... Ah, ce placard ! Que d'efforts pour le retrouver derrière le méchant placo, pour installer le caisson fait sur-mesure (presque précises), pour le peindre, pour trouver les bonnes étagères et le système de fermetur de la porte ! Mais, mais, mais ... admirer le résultat ! Ces deux photos sont d'ailleurs destinées à expliquer visuellement la différence entre un beau placard, et un placard très intéressant. Alors, vous avez trouvé ?

And then there is the cupboard ... Ah, the cupboard ! How much effort went into locating it behind the nasty plasterboards, into installing the made to (almost accurate) measure casing, into painting it, finding the right shelves and the best closing system for the doors ! But look at it now !! These two pictures are also designed to visually demonstrate the difference between a nice cupboard and a very interesting cupboard. So, any idea ?

Voila la surprise annoncée !
Vous ne rêvez pas, il s'agit bien d'un mur rouge, peint volontairement par un architecte adepte du gris-noir-blanc (et bleu les jours d'excentricité ...). Il s'agit, pour être plus spécifique, de Glorieuse Groseille, de Dulux. Ils semblent n'avoir jamais vu de groseilles, mais, on s'en fout, c'est magnifique !
Vous pouvez également admirer le parquet superbement posé, et les plintes qui sont presque toutes installées.
Donc, si Robin ne passe pas plus de 15 jours à retoucher les plintes, on pourra enfin, bientôt, à nouveau ... manger à une vraie table, et recevoir des invités !!!

Here is the surprise !
No, you aren't dreaming, it is indeed a red wall, willingly painted by an architect of the grey-black and white creed (occasionally blue, when feeling wild). It is, to be quite precise, Redcurrent Glory, by Dulux. Obviously, they have never seen any redcurrent, but who cares ? It looks fab !!
You can also admire the impeccably laid laminate, and the nearly finished skirtings.
So, if Robin doesn't spend a fortnight touching up the skirtings, we may soon, hopefully, be able to ... eat at a real table, and welcome guests properly !!!

Bon, ok, la salle à manger est encore ... en travaux, mais on va ranger, on va avancer, et c'est promis, on fait bientôt ripailles !

L'année commence en peinture / the year starts in paint

Bonne année à tous !
Après une bonne quinzaine très agréable et très reposante, à apprécier l'hospitalité parentale et la compagnie des copains, nous voici de retour à la maison, ou plutôt au chantier.
Contrairement aux croyances populaire, l'Ecosse n'est pas peuplé de créatures magiques, ou alors, elles ne font pas de bricolage, car quand nous sommes rentrés, le travail n'était pas fini.
Nous avons donc relevé nos manches et nous nous sommes remis au travail. En témoigne cette photo de Robin avec l'arme à la main, et le salon en partie peint. Oui, je sais, c'est toujours Robin, mais moi je fais bricolage ET reportage. Et oui, c'est beige. Coton Egyptien, pour être précis. Ce côté-là. Je n'en dis pas plus, suivez ce blog, il y aura peut être des surprises ...

After a very pleasant fortnight spent enjoying the parental hospitality and the company of friends, that's us back home, or rather, to our homely building site.
Despite rumours, Scotland isn't full of magical creatures, or if there are any, they don't do DIY. When we got back, the work hadn't been finished ! So we rolled up our sleeves, and started working again, as shown on the attached picture of Robin, weapon in hand, in front of the partly painted living-room. Yes, I know, it's always Robin, but I combine DIY AND reporting on events. And yes, it's beige. Egyptian Cotton, to be accurate. This side. I won't say anymore, follow the blog, there may be surprises.



Et ça, c'est la cheminée et l'alcove comme vous ne les verrez peut être plus, car le mur devrait être peint sous peu, l'alcove finie et garnie de verres et bouteilles, et la cheminée mise à bon usage ! Enfin, pas tout dans les jours qui suivent, hein, quand même ...

And here are the fireplace and the alcove as you may never see them again, since the wall should soon be painted and the alcove finished and filled with glasses and bottles, and the fireplace shall be put to good use ! Well, not all in the following days, but soon ...
